New Annex

A New State-of-the-Art Annex for the UI College of Engineering

The University of Iowa College of Engineering is putting the final touches on a major capital improvement project for a South Annex to the Seamans Center for the Engineering Arts and Sciences.

The $37 million, 65,000-square-foot addition adjoins the current Seamans Center and extends the complex southward toward Burlington Street, Iowa City. Funding for the Annex is a partnership among individual donors, corporate donors, the university, and college research centers.

The new South Annex answers a need for more space and state-of-the-art facilities as the College of Engineering experiences significant growth in enrollment and research. This fall, undergraduate enrollment has grown to 2,202 students—about an 80 percent increase from 2005. And in fiscal year 2017, research expenditures grew to $54 million—a 60+ percent increase from 2004.
